Inspired by a practice of passing around icons of Madonna in villages in southern Italy, I began giving out these little figures to friends with the instructions to pass them on to another friend after a few weeks. Each one has an accompanying little ‘house’ out of cardboard, that serves as protective enclosure for transport, and also a letter that each host can contribute too. Once the letter is full, the last person is asked to contact me and return the figure.
